Trump Calls Intel Boss China Ties a Conflict

Former President Donald Trump publicly demanded that Intel’s new CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, resign immediately. Trump claims Tan has ties to Chinese companies linked to the Chinese military.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump calls Intel boss “highly conflicted” and unfit to lead the chipmaker. The tech giant’s shares dropped more than 3% following the remarks.

Trump’s push follows concerns raised by Senator Tom Cotton, who questioned Tan’s links to Chinese firms while leading Cadence Design Systems. Though Tan was never charged, Cadence paid $140M in penalties.

Intel and Tan Push Back Against Allegations

Lip-Bu Tan, a respected figure in the semiconductor world, dismissed the claims as “misinformation.” He defended his ethics and record spanning over four decades in the U.S. tech industry.

Intel stated the company and its leadership remain committed to U.S. national and economic security. The firm continues to align with the “America First” agenda by investing in local manufacturing.

The situation escalates existing political tension between U.S. tech firms and China. It’s not illegal to invest in Chinese companies, but scrutiny has grown since Trump’s first term.

What’s Really Behind The Pressure?

Analysts believe Trump may be using Tan’s alleged ties to pressure Intel over other strategic decisions. One expert pointed to Intel’s shift in investment plans and a possible TSMC partnership.

Intel had earlier planned large U.S. investments, but Tan revealed a scale-back aligned with lower chip demand. This misstep in communication with the White House may have triggered Trump’s reaction.

Trump calls Intel boss to step down over national security concerns, but the real motive may run deeper within chip politics and strategy.
