On July 11, the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI) hosted a key conference in Chongqing. There, it signed a new deal with the Green New Car Assessment Program. The goal is to align lab testing capabilities for green, low-carbon vehicles between Europe and China.

This cooperation includes top partners like global rating agencies, testing experts, and automaker BYD. It helps Chinese vehicles meet international standards more easily.

The agreement covers test areas like emissions, charging efficiency, and energy use. Through unified green testing, both sides aim to ensure test results are accepted worldwide.

New Standards for Smart and Green Cars

CAERI also signed a memorandum with the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society. This global group works on autonomous driving and smart mobility.

Together, they’ll build new ways to test intelligent connected vehicles. This will help Chinese standards align with international norms, giving China more global influence.

Zhou Yulin, chairman of CAERI, said a reliable evaluation system helps guide buyers and improve car design. He added that it also strengthens national safety rules and supports green growth in the auto industry.

Since 2014, CAERI has tested around 500 car models and created over 400 patents and standards.

Chinese Cars Show Global Competitiveness

CAERI shared 2024 test results showing big progress. Occupant safety scores hit 91%, a major jump from 2019. Smart features like assisted navigation and memory parking were present in over 88% of Chinese models, more than many international brands.

Health scores also improved. Formaldehyde levels inside cars dropped by 25%. New energy vehicle (NEV) performance in cold weather improved too, with range loss down by nearly 10%.

New testing systems were also released at the event. These cover health, privacy, smart features, and safety, especially for NEVs.

Top-rated models included Li Auto L6 Pro, Xiaomi SU7, Aito M9, and BYD Song L, showing strong results in both health and smart tech evaluations.
