Google has started rolling out a new feature that lets Gemini AI broadcast messages through Google Home devices. This update brings Gemini closer to replacing Google Assistant on Android later this year. Users can now use the Gemini app to send announcements across connected Nest speakers or smart displays.
Previously, this feature was only available via Google Assistant. Now, Gemini can broadcast messages like “I’m on my way home” or “Dinner is ready” directly to devices around the home. You can also choose specific rooms or speakers for targeted messages.
How Gemini AI Broadcast Messages Work
To use the new feature, your phone or tablet must have the Gemini app. Ask Gemini to send a message, either as text or a voice note. If Google Home is not linked yet, the app will guide you to enable the connection.
Once connected, Gemini AI broadcast messages will play on all supported devices. It works like a home intercom, keeping everyone in sync with real-time voice alerts. You can even broadcast recipes to your kitchen display or reminders to the living room.
Device and Network Requirements to Use It
There are a few conditions to make this work. All Nest speakers and displays must be on the same Wi-Fi. They should also share the same Google account or be in one Google Family group. Note that this feature only supports one-way messaging. Replies aren’t possible, and third-party devices are not supported.
The new Gemini AI broadcast messages feature is part of Google’s wider move to enhance its smart home ecosystem with AI. This is just one step in making Gemini a full Google Assistant replacement.
