Major Delays Hit US Airports
United Airlines flights delayed across the US due to a technical issue that temporarily grounded several flights. The disruption affected major airports like Chicago, Houston, Denver, San Francisco, and Newark.
The airline paused mainline departures, while regional flights continued but faced delays due to airport congestion. Flights already in the air were allowed to continue to their destinations without disruption.
At 10:00 PM EDT, United announced the glitch was resolved. However, travelers continued to face ongoing delays into the night.
Frustrated Passengers Left Waiting
Flight tracking site FlightAware reported over 700 United Airlines flights delayed during the issue. Passengers across the country were left waiting for updates inside planes and terminals.
A traveler in Denver, Jessica Jeffers, said she spent two hours stuck on the tarmac waiting to fly to New Jersey. Many others expressed frustration online, reporting long delays and limited communication from staff.
CBS News confirmed United classified this as a preventable delay, meaning passengers could claim compensation for eligible expenses.
What Caused the Glitch?
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated the issue did not involve the US air traffic control system. United Airlines has yet to release further details on the cause.
The incident has raised questions about airline tech systems and how quickly they can fail, affecting thousands. United’s operations team is now working to return to full normal service.
Travelers are encouraged to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
