The aircraft, a Z9 military helicopter, was on its way to address illegal mining. Coffins draped in Ghanaian flags returned the bodies to Accra. A solemn ceremony was held at the Air Force Base.

Foggy Weather May Be Key

The cause of the Ghanaian ministers helicopter crash has not yet confirm, but investigations are ongoing. Ghana’s meteorological agency had warned of unusual cold and foggy weather this August.

Local farmers reported thick fog when the helicopter passed overhead. Witnesses say the aircraft was flying unusually low before a loud explosion echoed through the forest. There were no survivors at the crash site.

This marks the deadliest of three recent Air Force helicopter incidents in Ghana. Similar emergency landings occurr in 2020 and 2024.
