Search Ongoing for US Journalist
US climate journalist missing during a glacier hike in Folgefonna National Park, Norway, has sparked an urgent rescue operation.
Alec Luhn vanished on July 31 after starting his solo hike from Odda. He missed his return flight, prompting his wife to alert authorities.
Luhn, who has written for major outlets like the BBC and National Geographic, was exploring the glacier as part of his climate reporting.
Bad weather is slowing the search. Helicopters cannot fly, so teams are using drones and dogs instead.
Glacier Obsession Behind the Trip
Luhn’s wife, Veronika Silchenko, said he’s “obsessed with the Arctic” and often visits cold regions for work.
As a climate reporter, Luhn has covered melting glaciers and rising global temperatures.
“He loves snow, ice, and being close to nature,” she told CBS News.
Despite dangerous weather, she said he’s an experienced hiker and knows how to survive tough conditions.
Rescuers Battle Harsh Conditions
Search teams are battling time and weather to locate him. Snow, wind, and poor visibility are making it tough to search effectively.
The US climate journalist missing is 38 and currently based in London, with previous work experience in Moscow and Istanbul.
Luhn’s past articles include stories on Canada’s zombie fires and rising seas in Antarctica. His work often takes him to remote, extreme climates.
His disappearance has raised concern among the journalism and climate science communities.
