Panic at Midtown: Gunman Opens Fire in NYC Tower

A terrifying New York skyscraper shooting left four people dead and one critically injured on Monday evening. It happened at 345 Park Avenue, a 44-story tower in Midtown Manhattan. This location houses major corporations like the NFL and Blackstone. The gunfire caused mass panic among office workers.

Jessica Chen, an employee on the second floor, said she sent a final message to her parents, fearing for her life. “I told them I loved them,” she said. Many workers barricaded themselves inside conference rooms or ran for safety.

Shooter Misled by Elevator Error

The attacker, 27-year-old Shane Tamura, drove from Las Vegas to Manhattan with a loaded assault-style rifle. He targeted the NFL headquarters but mistakenly took the wrong elevator. It brought him to the 33rd floor of Rudin Management instead.

Before that, Tamura entered the lobby and fatally shot a police officer, Didarul Islam, who leaves behind a pregnant wife and two children. He continued firing at others in the lobby. Victims included a Blackstone employee and a security guard, Aland Etienne, who tried to stop the gunman.

Shooter’s Motive and Final Moments

Tamura left behind a three-page note stating he believed he suffered from CTE, a brain condition linked to head trauma. Though he never played professional football, he blamed the NFL for his condition. His note said, “Study my brain. I’m sorry.”

After firing more shots on the 33rd floor, Tamura shot himself. Investigators say he used a rifle built from legally purchased parts and had a known mental health history.

The New York skyscraper shooting shocked the city and raised new concerns about security in office buildings.
