System Failure Grounds Dozens of Aeroflot Flights
On Monday, Aeroflot cancels flights across Russia after an unexpected failure in its information system. The airline did not reveal what caused the issue or how long it might last.
Aeroflot, Russia’s national carrier, said their technical team is working to fix the problem and resume normal operations. This incident left many travelers stranded, especially at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport.
The airline posted a list of over 40 cancelled flights, which included domestic routes and international destinations like Minsk and Yerevan.
Passengers Face Long Delays and Confusion
According to local news outlet Baza, the situation at the airport turned chaotic. Long queues formed as passengers tried to exit or retrieve their luggage.
Aeroflot advised passengers on cancelled flights to collect their bags and leave the terminal. The disruption added to ongoing travel frustrations faced by Russian citizens since the Ukraine war began in 2022.
Although previous flight delays were often caused by drone threats, this time a system error was to blame.
Aeroflot Still Among World’s Top Airlines Despite Sanctions
Despite being affected by sanctions due to Russia’s war in Ukraine, Aeroflot remains one of the top 20 global airlines by passenger numbers.
In 2024, the Aeroflot Group served over 55 million passengers, showing its strong presence in the aviation industry.
This week’s disruption, as Aeroflot cancels flights, has once again highlighted the growing challenges in maintaining stable air travel within the region.
