A sit-in program was held on behalf of the Bangladesh Disabled Schools Coordination Council to demand 05 (five) points including recognition and MPO registration of autistic and disabled schools across the country. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 9% of the total population of Bangladesh is disabled. The sit-ins said that the overall development of a country is not possible by depriving this large population of the light of education.

This sit-in program was held in front of the National Press Club of Bangladesh at around 9 am on Monday, July 21st in the presence of about four thousand teachers.

In this regard, the speakers said that extensive organizational activities have been conducted on the movement program and demands through exchange of views, human chains and submission of memorandums to the Deputy Commissioners across the country. In that context, on December 20, 2019, the Ministry of Social Welfare issued a notification for the recognition and MPO of schools for the disabled and accepted applications online.

In view of the said notification, 2,741 educational institutions applied. After the initial scrutiny and selection by the Ministry of Social Welfare, 1,772 applications were accepted. Then, about 200 schools accepted applications for recognition and MPO offline. Later, in the light of the Special Education Policy 2019, the National Recognition and MPO Committee was formed and the activities of the Ministry of Social Welfare began by dividing the schools into three categories: A, B, and C. Which is very slow. As a result, about 63,000 teachers and employees across the country are living a very inhumane life and are having an adverse impact on the education sector of schools for the disabled. 57 previously recognized and unaccredited autistic and disabled schools are waiting for MPO enrollment, which has not been resolved till date.

This program is aimed at strengthening the government’s efforts to implement the 100% education policy by providing financial freedom to teachers and staff who are living in a non-human environment and educating disabled children. We hope that our hungry voice will be heard at the target point by your writings born of awakened conscience and will play an effective role.
05 (five) point demands:
1. Recognition and MPO enrollment of all special (autistic and disabled) schools should be ensured immediately.
2. Disability-friendly infrastructure should be ensured in all special schools.
3. Minimum education allowance of 3000/- taka should be ensured for special students.
4. Educational materials, sports equipment and therapy centers should be provided to students along with mid-day meals.
5. Employment creation and rehabilitation of students under the vocational education curriculum should be ensured and jobs should be ensured as per the quota of special people in all government and private institutions.
Thank you
